In this bread I see, the hope of life

Which has been given to me, by God’s own son

And through his life and death

And his story here on earth

We join together as one with our saving Lord Jesus Christ

In this wine I see, the spring of love

Which is flowing to me through God’s own son

And through this blessing cup

Which he, himself did raise

And as we come to this table we find

That Jesus is there within our hearts

With love to share

In this bread and wine which is blessed in his name

This is the new covenant, sealed by God’s own son

And if our heavenly father we love

And love our neighbour here on earth

Joined Together notes

This was written specifically as a Communion Hymn. It was written at that time for Ben’s (my son) First Communion Day – Mother’s Day 1989. It was an effort to inform him of the special significance I saw in the event and the special closeness to Jesus that it brings.  I have used it on a number of occasions at the offertory and Communion times in the Eucharist.
