Waiting, waiting, waiting for promises to come true
Hoping, praying, wishing for dreams from me to you
We light the candle
We begin our wait
Hoping for peace for all his people’s sake
Waiting, waiting, waiting for promises to come true
Vs 1
Two thousand years ago a promise that God made to man
Was fulfilled in the form of a baby as was his plan
And in a lowly stable outside of Beth-le-hem
The word was made flesh and his people’s hope lived strong again – CH
Vs 2
Two thousand years ago the shepherds came with their sheep
The wise men came with kingly gifts while the baby sleeps
The angels singing Alleluia in the heavens
And so begun his story of man’s redemption

Waiting notes
This Advent hymn came about after the school I was working at, at the time, had used the same two Advent hymns for four to five years and nobody knew of any others to substitute in their place. Although it is more of a reflective type of hymn, something that children would listen to and reflect on, I have included a liturgical movement to help its expression as well as a descant part which children could sing through the chorus.
I have also used this at a Carols by Candle-Light event at Maldon to great effect as it gives everyone a chance to relax between singing the traditional carols and I feel, helps get the message across that Advent as a time of waiting.
