[The journey]
We walked along the road down cast and full of grief
My friend and I were devastated, our minds full of disbelief
And as we walked in silence, a man came by our side
And asked, “Why are you saddened? Why is it that you sigh?”
[the story]
Are you the only one in Jerusalem, we said
Who doesn’t know what has happened
To that man, Jesus of Nazareth, we said
They took him out and hung him
We’d thought he’d be the one to set Israel free,
But now, he’s gone and we are troubled
For some women who went ot the tomb have said,
His body was gone, and he is risen!?
His body was gone and he is risen?
[The revelation]
He said,…”How foolish you are and slow
To understand what the prophets said of old”
And as we listened to his words he spoke to us
Our hearts burned within,…
And as we came upon Emmaus in the evening,
we begged him stay and sup with us
We sat and he took the bread and he blessed it in his hands,
He broke it and gave it out to us,…
And our eyes were cleared,…
Yes our eyes were cleared,…
And our eyes were clears, and he was gone!
[The witness]
And so back along the road we hurried on
Back to our friends in their locked room
And as we greeted them, we said “Yes it is all true!”
We are his witness, through our doubt he’s broken through,…
And our eyes were cleared,…
Yes our eyes were cleared,…
And our eyes are clear, He is alive!
And our eyes are clear, He is alive!
